Small on
purpose.
Senior by default.
Off the Rails is a creative technology studio for people who think differently, overthink everything, and want a real thing built. The person you meet is the person who does the work.
We are deliberately small. It keeps the decisions close to the work, the overhead low, and the excuses scarce.

One idea. A thousand possibilities.

Good work is
a series of
honest decisions.
There is no magic stack, no secret framework, no AI button that makes a product good. There is a clear problem, a small team paying attention, and enough time to do the boring parts properly.
Question the brief.
The first version of the assignment is rarely the real problem. We would rather find that out in week one than month three. Sometimes the answer is a website. Sometimes it is deleting three steps from a process and not building anything.
Build the smallest real thing.
A working slice beats a beautiful mockup. Ship the risky part early, put it in front of the person who has to use it, then make it beautiful. Momentum is a design material.
Leave it better than we found it.
Clean handoff, honest documentation, no mystery dependencies. You should be able to leave us without breaking anything — and we should be able to hand the work to the next person without a six-week archaeology project.
Slow where it matters. Fast everywhere else.
Untangle
We start with questions, not pixels. Stakeholder interviews, a systems audit, and a written point of view on what is actually worth building. You leave this phase with a scope you can argue with.
Output — Audit, scope, success criteria
Sketch
Wireframes become a clickable prototype. Visual direction comes with real content, not lorem ipsum, because a design that only works with perfect copy is not a design.
Output — Prototype, direction, design system
Build
Weekly releases on a real staging URL. You can click through it, and on client projects you can leave blue-tape notes directly on the page. The feedback loop stays short on purpose.
Output — Working builds, blue-tape reviews, QA
Hand off
Documentation, training, and a quiet support window after launch. We measure success by whether your team can run the thing without calling us — not by how often they do.
Output — Docs, training, launch support

If the thing you need is adjacent to this list, ask. Half of our favorite projects started with “this might be weird, but…”

What does a project usually cost?
Most websites land between $10k and $40k. Custom software and apps are usually $25k and up, depending on scope. We would rather give you an honest range on the first call than a fake number in a template.
How long does it take?
A focused marketing site is four to eight weeks. A storefront or custom tool is usually ten to sixteen. Apps vary. We will tell you what is realistic before you commit, and we will not pretend a deadline is fine when it is not.
Do you work with small teams?
Almost exclusively. Most of our clients are owner-led businesses or small internal teams with a real problem and no patience for agency theater.
What is blue tape?
Our client review tool. During a build, you get a live preview in your portal. Click the blue tape button, click the exact spot that needs attention, and leave a note. We reply, fix, and mark it resolved — no screenshot scavenger hunt in email.
Can you fix or finish something someone else started?
Often, yes. We will audit what exists first and tell you whether finishing it is cheaper than starting over. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it really is not.
What do you not do?
We do not run ongoing ad campaigns, we do not do generic SEO retainers, and we do not take projects where the only goal is to look busy. We also do not use AI to pretend we did work we did not do.
Ready when you are
Bring us the messy version.
Let's take it off the rails.
Tell us the thing you cannot stop thinking about. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right people to build it.
