McKenzie River Lodge No. 195
A public front door and a private lodge system: dues, calendar, directory, messaging, scholarships, a live site editor, and a companion app.
McKenzie River Lodge No. 195 — 2026McKenzie River Lodge No. 195 has been meeting in Eugene since 1927. The old site was a brochure: a few pages about the lodge, a handful of dates, and no way for members to do the work that actually keeps a lodge running.
We rebuilt the public site around the lodge's own brand and then put the private life of the lodge behind a real login. Members get a dashboard, a private calendar, a directory, direct messaging, dues standing, and a place to update their own profile. Officers get the work they need: access requests, events, announcements, scholarship applications, a media library, and a live editor for the public pages. The public site only ever reads events the lodge marks public; the rest stays inside.
The project also includes a signed Android app and an installable web app. The app is a branded shell around the same secure portal, with its own download page, checksum, and phone-specific install walkthrough. Members can keep the last calendar snapshot offline; the rest resumes when they reconnect.
This is a working concept built as a community project for the lodge. It is currently with the lodge for review, and demo data is used in the members' area.
The brief
The lodge's public site had to explain who they are and how to visit. The actual work - dues, degrees, officer meetings, directory, applications - was scattered across email, paper, and private conversations. Making all of it public would be wrong; leaving it in three places was expensive.
The approach
Separate the public face from the private lodge. Public pages read only explicitly public events and officers. The members portal requires a session and filters every record server-side by role and visibility. The site editor gives the lodge control of its own copy, with drafts, publish approval, revision history, and a media library. A single data model keeps calendar, directory, messaging, dues, scholarships, and the website attached to the same member record.
The outcome
A working lodge system: one public front door, one private home for the members, one place for the officers to run it. The lodge is reviewing the sample now; production email, payments, a final data migration, and the Play Store listing are the next steps.
